GymNotes terms of service
Last updated: 4 September 2026
1. Introduction
GymNotes is a free, offline-first fitness tracking app available in your web browser. By accessing or using GymNotes, including its optional device and Google Drive backup features, you agree to these Terms of Service.
2. Acceptance of terms
By using GymNotes, you confirm that you have read, understood and agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
3. Description of the service
GymNotes is provided free of charge for personal use. Workout data is stored locally on your device by default, and no GymNotes account is required. You can optionally download a backup file or connect Google Drive for direct backup and restore.
When you use Google Drive backup, eligible GymNotes data is transferred directly between your browser and a private GymNotes area in your Google Drive. It does not pass through or remain on a GymNotes-owned server. See the Privacy Policy for details.
4. Your responsibilities
- You are responsible for maintaining suitable backups. GymNotes cannot guarantee recovery after device failure, browser-data deletion, accidental deletion, corruption or loss of access to Google Drive.
- Keep your device, Google account and downloaded backup files secure.
- Use GymNotes only for lawful purposes. Do not interfere with or disrupt the app or its supporting services.
5. Licence and use
We grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use GymNotes for personal, non-commercial purposes. You must not modify, reproduce or distribute any part of the service except where applicable law or an open-source licence permits it.
6. Prohibited conduct
You must not:
- attempt to gain unauthorised access to GymNotes or its supporting systems;
- introduce harmful code or deliberately disrupt the service; or
- use GymNotes or its backup and restore features for illegal activity or to infringe another person's rights.
7. Google Drive backups
- Google Drive backup is optional and does not create a GymNotes account.
- GymNotes requests permission only to manage files it creates in Google Drive's private application-data folder. It cannot access your normal Drive files.
- Google operates Google Drive. Your use of it is also governed by Google's applicable terms and privacy policy.
- GymNotes cannot guarantee Google Drive's availability or the continued availability, integrity or successful restoration of any backup. Keep an occasional downloaded backup as an independent copy.
- You can revoke GymNotes' access or delete its hidden application data through your Google Account and Google Drive settings. GymNotes cannot recover deleted Google Drive backups.
8. Disclaimers
GymNotes is provided "as is" without warranties, either express or implied. We do not guarantee that the app or its backup features will always be available, error-free or suitable for a particular purpose.
GymNotes does not provide medical or fitness advice. Consult an appropriately qualified professional for personalised guidance.
9. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, GymNotes and its developer will not be liable for indirect, incidental or consequential loss arising from your use of the service, including loss or corruption of local, downloaded or Google Drive backup data. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded.
10. Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated when GymNotes or its data-handling practices change. The latest version and its effective date will be published on this page. Continuing to use GymNotes after an update means you accept the revised terms.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the United Kingdom. Any disputes will be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of the United Kingdom, except where applicable consumer law requires otherwise.
